Ian Chesworth was initially trained as a Physicist at the University of Durham and worked as an Engineer and Manager in the semiconductor industry before making music his full-time profession.

He has just completed his Postgraduate studies at at the Royal Northern College of Music having studied with Colin Iveson and Robert Alderson. Operatic experience to-date includes Silvio (Pagliacci), Gugliemo (Così fan Tutte), Sulpizio (La Figlia del Reggimento), Melchior (Amahl and the Night Visitors), Paquillo (La Perichole), Monostatos (The Magic Flute), Enrico (Lucia di Lammermoor) and Lord Felmet (Wyrd Sisters).

Recent concert and oratorio performances include Mendelssohn's Elijah, Bach’s St Matthew and St John Passions and the Mass in Bm, Gounod’s St Cecilia Mass, and the Fauré and Duruflé Requiems. He has taken part in a number of masterclasses, and received coaching from Sir Thomas Allen, Julius Drake and Adele Leigh among others. In December 2000 he appeared with the Northern Sinfonia in the British Premiere of ‘The Bear’ by Howard Blake in the presence of the composer.

Ian is also an accomplished organist, holding the Associateship Diploma of the Royal College of Organists. He has appeared on TV and Radio as both an organist and conductor and also arranged and played a selection of music from Sir Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Oratorio in the presence of the composer. He is an experienced accompanist, performing many concerts with choirs throughout the North-East and North-West and for many high-level examinations.

An experienced choral conductor, Ian directs a number of choirs in the Manchester area, including the King Edward Music Society of Macclesfield (KEMS), Manchester Philharmonic Choir, Bolton Chamber Choir and is also Director of Music at Eccles Parish Church.

As a teacher, Ian is happy in both a one-to-one and group / workshop situations, and is always happy to give advice to prospective students. He is able to offer tuition in vocal technique, piano, organ and also coaching for advanced students at his private teaching practice in Chorlton.
