Ian Chesworth was initially trained as a Physicist at
the University of Durham and worked as an Engineer and Manager in the
semiconductor industry before making music his full-time profession.
He holds the Associateship Diploma of the Royal College of Organists and has
studied organ with David Sanger, Roger Fisher and Keith Wright. Recent concert
appearances have included Rutter's Gloria in Durham Cathedral, Parry Church
Music in St Helens Parish Church and a Messiah with the
Frodsham
District Choral Society. He has appeared on TV and Radio as both an organist and
conductor and also arranged and played a selection of music from Sir Paul
McCartney’s Liverpool Oratorio in the presence of the composer.
Recently, Ian completed his Postgraduate vocal studies at the Royal Northern
College of Music, Manchester studying with Colin Iveson. Operatic experience
to-date includes Silvio (Pagliacci), Gugliemo (Così fan Tutte), Sulpizio (La
Figlia del Reggimento), Melchior (Amahl and the Night Visitors), Paquillo (La
Perichole), Monostatos (The Magic Flute) and Lord Felmet (Wyrd Sisters). He has
taken part in a number of masterclasses, and received coaching from Sir Thomas
Allen, Adele Leigh and Seth Riggs among others. In December 2000 he appeared
with the Northern Sinfonia in the British Premiere of ‘The Bear’ by Howard Blake
in the presence of the composer.
An experienced choral conductor, Ian directs a number of choirs in the Manchester area, including the King Edward Music Society of Macclesfield (KEMS), Manchester Philharmonic Choir, Bolton Chamber Choir and is also Director of Music at Eccles Parish Church. As a teacher, Ian is happy in both a one-to-one and group / workshop situations, and is always happy to give advice to prospective students. He is able to offer tuition in vocal technique, piano, organ and also coaching for advanced students at his private teaching practice in Chorlton.
