Ian Chesworth was initially trained as a Physicist
at the University of Durham and worked as an Engineer and Manager in the
semiconductor industry before making music his full-time profession.
He has been conducting since University when he founded the choir 'AMDG' and
performed works such as the Mozart Requiem, Pergolesi Stabat Mater and the
Victoria Requiem. An accomplished organist, he holds the Associateship Diploma
of the Royal College of Organists and has studied with David Sanger, Roger
Fisher and Keith Wright. He has appeared on national TV and Radio as both an
organist and conductor and also arranged and played a selection of music from
Sir Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Oratorio in the presence of the composer. Ian
conducts a number of choirs in the Manchester area including the King Edward
Music Society of Macclesfield (KEMS), Manchester Philharmonic Choir, Bolton
Chamber Choir and is
Director of Music at Eccles Parish Church.
He has recently completed postgraduate vocal study at the RNCM in Manchester.
Whilst there he sang a wide variety of roles including Enrico (Lucia da Lammemor),
Silvio (Pagliacci), Melchior (Amahl and the Night Visitors), Paquillo (La
Perichole), Monostatos (The Magic Flute) and Lord Felmet (Wyrd Sisters). He has
taken part in a number of masterclasses, and received coaching from Sir Thomas
Allen, Adele Leigh and Seth Riggs among others. In December 2000 he sang the
tenor role of Howard Blake's 'The Bear' with the Northern Sinfonia and in the
presence of the composer. Future plans include Spoletta (Tosca) for Opus 1 Music
and a number of song recitals.
